For those of you who follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you will know my favourite weekend treat is brunch.
Brunch has become the “fashionable” meal – especially if ordered with a side of smashed avocado along with a kale based juice – and I for one am absolutely hooked.
Whether returning to fail-safe local brunch spots, cooking up a feast with friends or heading further afield to explore new foodie havens, where any style eggs and sourdough bread is on the menu, I am happy.
Each month, I am going to share with you my favourite spot for brunching. First to welcome to the blog is Kings Cross’ finest, Caravan.
Caravan welcomes “brunchers” on a Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Though it takes no reservations, upon arrival you will be given a number and gestured towards the bar area where there is plenty of seating and lovely waiters ready to take your drinks order.
Distracted by our healthy juices, in what felt like a very quick 40 minutes we were shown to our table.
I opted for the carrot, apple and ginger juice (left) and Nat chose the watermelon apple and mint (right). Both were refreshing and so so delicious – ideal Saturday morning pick-me-ups.
While Caravan was jam-packed with hungry Londoners, the service was faultless and our food arrived super speedily. The menu is definitely different and offers interesting brunch treats from black coconut rice to Jalepeno corn bread.
However it was baked eggs with sausages for me and the Caravan fry for Nat.
Savoury with a sweet twist, the baked eggs were scrumptious and the crispy and buttery sourdough bread was perfect to dip into the yolky eggs and mop up the tomato and pepper mix underneath.
With bursting bellies, we sat back and chatted over cups of coffee until we felt ready to get on with our day.
Caravan is rustic and edgy with an industrial feel and I am already planning to return to try its dinner menu – I have a feeling it won’t disappoint!
