A couple of weeks ago Mum and I escaped for some peace and quiet. Armed with gym gear, swimwear, pyjamas and little else, we headed off to Champneys Tring for the night to spend two days dressed in their signature cuddly white robes and matching slippers.
Arriving at 10am, a few hours before our room was ready, we were given our treatment “schedules” and a tour of the spa. Ditching our overnight bags, we headed to Fighting Fit; a full body workout that had us boxing and sprinting our way to earning us some lunch.
Lunch is the same style daily; a big buffet filled with an assortment of vegetables, different proteins and wholegrain crusty breads with healthy spreads like beetroot butter. What is great about lunch is that you don’t feel silly sitting in your robe and slippers – everybody is!
We were disappointed that when we went to check into our room it wasn’t quite ready, but to compensate we were upgraded to the Manor Suite. With a room double the size of what we were expecting and with this view, we were not complaining!
Champneys grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Huge and perfectly kept grassy areas surround the spa and hotel, and with the sunshine too, it really felt like a proper holiday. After a quick smoothie pick-me-up, Mum and I went for a walk in the woods just before we were due to the treatment area for full body scrubs.
Even just sitting and waiting to be called for my treatment, I felt utterly relaxed. The spa area plays soft music and is decked out with comfy corner sofas and magazines galore.
An hour later Mum and I felt beautified. In a dreamy lethargic daze, we headed upstairs to have an hours nap before dinnertime.
Dinner is a slightly more formal affair. Strictly no dressing gowns allowed, we struggled out of our beds and reluctantly into jeans and jumpers. We whizzed in and out of dinner, eager to spend the rest of our evening reading magazines and simply chilling out.
Day two was all sports massages, saunas and steams, pedicures and long lazy lunching
As Mum said, there’s always next time!
